Feature writing for the trade press

We’re always looking for opportunities to generate good quality media coverage for our client, Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Bury – specialist manufacturers of pre-cut lids and shrink sleeve labels – so when the Assistant Editor at Converter Magazine approached us about writing a feature exclusively on Shrink Sleeves we jumped at the chance.

Features are a great way of raising your profile in your target media. They give you an opportunity to share industry knowledge and market insights, and talk about developments happening within your own business.

Here are our top 5 tips for securing those all important feature opportunities:

  1. Do your research. Identify the publications in which you’d like some profile.
  2. Check to see if they have a forward features list (they might have features coming up that you could contribute towards by offering a comment piece or submitting a relevant case study).
  3. Look at the type of articles they publish and pitch an idea for a story. Offer to write the entire article. Keeping it newsworthy and not overly ‘salesy’.
  4. Meet the deadline. If you’ve offered to submit something and by a certain date make sure you stick to it, and keep within the word count.
  5. Support your feature with good quality images.
